what a day… :/

well today has been a trying day to say the least…

we started our day fairly early… i called the 2 TGIFridays in town here since i thought this would be a pretty easy job to get since i had previouly worked for them and done training etc… i talked to the managers and one sounded promising for many reasons and the other not so promising…
well it turned out that the one that was more promising was in a nice part of town that we had been told that “if you can afford to live in rio rancho (the town), then go ahead and search for an apartment there…” so i went to the Fridays there and filled out an application for a job… i thought, what the hell… so that lead us to looking at apartments in the area since i was supposed to come back a couple hours later to speak with a manager…

the apartment hunt… yuck, what an awful thing to go through when you do not have a job since you just moved here from out of state for family and nothing to show proof of income…
we drove across the street and saw some absolutely gorgeous apartments… (will get back to this in a moment)

we had gone to an apartment locator yesterday and that is something that i will not do again… she had given us 5 apartments to look at and one was what she said out of our price range but a beautiful place… we went to the first one and really liked it and the owner of the complex was the one that showed us the place and was willing to work with us… it was nice and thought we might take it… but, it was the first place we had looked and the “nice” place was down on the list… we went to the next 2 places and they were in awful neighborhoods and the apartments themselves were awful… we did not even go into the leasing office of one of them… then, there was one that did not even have any vacancies until the middle of next month…

here we are with the “nice” place… she was right… it was beyond perfect… but it was very expensive, comparitively… we were looking at a 1 bedroom for 700 and a 2 bedroom for 900… but, i fell in love with the place… it had vaulted ceilings, large windows, roman bathtubs, and the view was looking right at the mountains… we could not ask for more… our private balcony was facing the huge mountains in front of us…
but, we ran into some problems with them… they said they would be willing to work with us when we put our deposit down, but when i called this morning, they were rude and inconsiderate and did not agree to anything that was said just the day before… i was upset to say the least…

so, that leads us back to the top again…

we left the Fridays thing and then were back apartment hunting in the area… we pulled up to this place that read “resort community”… i about died… “no way, we are never going to get into THIS place”, we said… we pulled up near the leasing office and we heard some faint sound… we thought it was an alarm going off on our computers but it wasn’t… we got out of the car and as we walked up to the office, we realized that they were playing classical music as you enter the office… i was really saying, no way at this point…. right about then i thought this place is going to cost us like 1000 for a 1 bedroom and 1200 for a 2 bedroom…

but what the hell, we can’t make it to the otherside of town and back before i have that meeting with the manager at Fridays…
so, we walk into this amazing place, it was similar to walking into a casino lobby done in southwest… it was huge, and overlooked 2 lagoon pools, classical music playing and people walking up to you offering you a drink… the guests even walked by and said “hello”… i felt like i was in some twilight zone episode or something… this was TOOperfect… we sat down and talked to the leasing agent… we really liked her… she had her nose pierced and was working here… i already wanted to live here and that was before i had even walked around or talked to one person…

well we talked to her and let her knw our situation and she said…
“the only reason why we turn someone down is if they have a felony…”

huh?

ok, now this place is really going to cost tons…
we sat down and talked to her and the one bedrooms were 650 and the 2 bedrooms were 779 but for the first half of the lease you pay 100 less making this place only 679 a month…

something had to be wrong here… i was going to wake up at any moment and say that was a really mean dream… but it wasn’t and things just kept getting better…

the amenities…
they have 2 lagoon pools, one heated year round, a jacuzzi, high-speed internet with fax and everything, a fitness center, a sauna, 9 hole putting green, tennis courts, basketball courts, a sand vollyball court, once a month they have a saturday brunch and you eat until you are full or the food runs out, and…

(gasp)

a mini theater with stadium seating, large television, surround sound and you can watch your own dvds… this place sits up to 30 people and beautiful seats… you can sign up for a date and time and even use their kitchen to make popcorn and such… within the theater there is a table and chairs for you to put things onto… they encourage you to enjoy this and noone is to bother you when the door is closed… you are uninterrupted for the time you are there… it is amazing…

then, we go and see both the 1 and 2 bedroom apartments… they all have full washer/dryer, security alarms, HUGE windows, balconies, walk-in closets, 40 or 50 gallon water heater (our last one felt lie 5), tons of kitchen space, microwaves, roman tubs, 🙂 and get this… a 13″ tv in the kitchen…

then the 2 bedroom was all this and more… it had a really nice guest room with a great bathroom with tub and all… it has great wood and the walls are two-toned in tans and light sand colors… very nice color schemes…

we were in love…

we went back to the office after seeing the nicest place we had seen yet to talk things over… we told her that we would talk it over at lunch and be back in a bit since i also needed to go back to Fridays…

we left and went to Fridays and was told to come back at 4…
ok, we had some time to kill, so we went and looked at another complex not far from the ones we just left…

they were alot like the last place but was missing so much the last place had… it had alot of the same amenities but the people were not as personable and they were only a year old and still moving in really…
also, no mini theater, sauna and a couple other things like that… they did have a tanning booth and a hair salon though…
but we thought we would check it out anyway… we were not as impressed and the view was nice but the cost was about was about 100 and 150 more a month… and no tv in the kitchen… 🙁

so, we went back to the place we loved…

we filled out everything and we were told to come in in a couple hours and work out the place were we would be moving into, it is supposed to take 4-5 days to give the maintenance men enought time to do all the work on the apartments and they had just had a meeting that morning…

that was just not going to work for us…

she said she would see what she could do and get back to us in a moment…

she came back and said that she had NEVER heard this before but her manager said that she could have us in the next day or even possibly tonight…

huh?

no way…

she had walked the apartment that at this time looked like it was going to be ours… it was a different layout than the one we had seen but this one also had a fireplace… it was more than we wanted and a better price but we do kinda lose the view from the master bedroom… the guest has a nice view…

and then, she said that we filled out all the paperwork and it would only take a couple hours until they could probably get all the information they needed and if we could get the money to move in (which is alot, but managable), we could possibly be in tonight…

i could not beleive this… it was too good to be true…

we rushed to the bank across the street and they could not cash my travelers checks for the amount we needed… they could only give us 500 and we needed 1500 in a cashiers check…
they said no can do…
we were in trouble now… we were about to get into this place tonight and because we have travelers check and not cash so we could not get the money to get into the apartment… the other bank had also closed… we were out of luck…

we went back to the apartments and let them know that i was unable to get the money that night…
the manager had then said that because neither of us showed any proof of income that we might need another 800 for the deposit… this was insane… this was not what we were told before… we were told by the first girl is all they can legally charge you for is 1 months full rent and we were already paying that…
so, we leave more depressed than before, but i still had to go back to Fridays…

so we went to Fridays and i talked to the manager and was hired on the spot… i start monday morning…
woo-hoo for a job of any kind at this point…

we ran back over to the apartments and let them know that i was now employed as of monday and she called and verified everything, saving us 800 bucks… 🙂

that was close…

but she was unable to reach our last apartment so we could not get in tonight anyway… she would be calling in the morning and we will (hopefully if all things work out right) have the cashiers check for them…

so after al that we were hungry and headed across the street to the nice mall…

the food court was an upside down city of albuquerque with hot air balloons that made them look like light bulbs… everything was upside down so it was so interesting… it even had some hang gliders… very cool…

we ate there at thise place that sold chinese food buffet style by the pound… you grab it yourself, they weigh it and you pay that way… weird, but yet another cool thing…

and we walked around more and ran into a bed that i think i am going to be picking up tomorrow… it will be perfect… it is a black canopy bed… i always wanted a canopy bed and this is my little present to myself fr our new place… 🙂
and they will even deiver it for free… 🙂

it is beautifull here, there are massive mountains with snow and a beautiful view… i still can not believe that i now live here…

that was the wnd of our day out…

aand then we get home and he checked his email and his dad has been rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery… we call the hospital and there was no answer at his room… we called his parents twice and left messages both times… panic and serious fear…
we call the hospital again and this time ask to be transferred to his dad’s room and after a couple transfers we are there…
we talk to his mom and she said that his gall bladder had died… the doctor had told her that he did not think he would make it through the surgery and this would probably be the end and eve if he did make it through, that it would still be far from over…
by the time we had called he had made it through the surgery and that the next 48 hours are extremely critical… if he has a stroke or heart attack it could very well kill him… and if he makes it through the next 2 days then the next month or so he is going to need 100% help…

to say the least, i am a blubbering mess at this time…
so, we are here at home feeling pretty good about ourselves and God lets us know the real reason why we are here…
we know this is not good and we are unable to get to them until tomorrow night… we are now needing this 2 bedroom apartment more than ever and this is the reason why…
we are going to finalize everything tomorrow morning and then unloading the truck and heading down to see his parents ASAP…

so, that is where we are now and we pray that tomorrow brings better things to his parents…
