  • movie commentaries

    Current Mood: tired

the original post can be found here

well this was the weekend of commentaries for me…

first one that i watched was for boogie nights… i like this movie and i thought i learned alot about the way pt anderson directs and a different insight into the actors as well…
    —————-

the next one that i watched was the commentary on our beautiful criterion laserdisc for trainspotting… 🙂

great and amazing movie and the commentary was just as great… there were a couple times when it was hard to understand them because of their scottish accents…

    —————-

then i also watched both commentaries on pi…

great black and white low budget film…

i really think that i liked the sean gullette commentary much better than the director commentary…

    —————-

i think this is all i am going to write for now since i am half asleep already and it is dark here at work… everyone is kicking back around their little mobile dvd players…

101 Ways to Save the Internet [wired.com]

Where’s a superhero when you need one? The Net, which once seemed so invincible, is under attack by the forces of evil. Viruses knock servers to their knees.. Spammers hijack our inboxes. Hackers and identity thieves menace our collective security and personal privacy.
Desperate solutions range from abandoning email to requiring a license to log on. Halt, fools! The Internet’s problems stem from the same virtues that make it great: open architecture, the free flow of information, peer-to-peer cooperation, and a bias for linking strangers, not disconnecting them. Take those away and the Net might cease to infuriate us – but it will also cease to amaze us.

Here’s a smarter approach: 101 proposals that harness the Net’s own superpowers to defeat its foes. Up, up, and away!

    a few examples…

Build a .sex red-light district – Icann, the committee that assigns top-level Internet domains, refuses to create an adult zone that can easily be kept from kids’ eyes. Porn won’t disappear, so deal with it.

from the “Microsoft To-Do” section of the list…

Hey Steve, fire someone – Somebody’s not living up to the company’s tough talk on fixing bugs. Developers, developers, developers should be accountable, accountable, accountable.

Give away a good spam filter

Ship antivirus wizard – Why can’t the paper clip guy tell us something important, like “This message is infected with Sobig”?

Take the blame – Software license agreements that absolve you of, oh, deleting three years’ worth of email are irresponsible. Bugs are negligence, and negligence should cost you, not us.

    from the “Google To-Do List”

    Crawl the Internet Archive

Let us link to a page we hate without boosting its ranking

from the “Your To-Do List” section…

Switch your ISP – Some offer anti-spam and anti-virus tools and support. If your current provider won’t help you defend yourself, find another that will.

Death to fax machines – Send us an attachment instead.
Stop with the jokes – If we get the one about French military victories one more time, we’re going to come over and unplug you personally.

people who continuously forward junk to me get treated like any other spammer…
people, please, just repeat the mantra from the Earthlink Internet Hour radio show:

I will not forward forwarded email
I will not forward forwarded email
I will not forward forwarded email

Turn off your HTML email – It makes you vulnerable to viruses – and bugs us.

Tell Kelly on Geocities to take down her Macarena tribute page It’s over, Kel.

damn straight! i have written much on this subject in the past and i am sure i will write more in the future…

Celebrate diversity – With nearly every computer on the planet running Windows, Outlook, and Explorer, it’s too easy for a single virus to spread everywhere.

    and, finally…

Add a “Skip All Flash Intros” option to Macromedia players

in the words of Sam Steele, “Flash is evil.”…

ok, final thought, say it with me now…

  • minor changes

    Current Mood: content

    Current Music: meh

the original post can be found here

i made some minor changes on the colors but i am going to have to go home and see how this looks on a dreamcast… i also changed the emoticons because the ones that i was using before were the same color as the background and i did not want that…

there are still so many things that i would like to do here but i do not have the time this morning…

i will try to do some more updating around here this weekend while it is slow here at work…

  • new franken-computer

    Current Mood: dorky

Current Music: same station; some r&b station (i guess that is what it is)

the original post can be found here

we finally saw a psion computer somewhere other than ebay the other day… we were at discount electronics and there in the case was a psion 3c… so, of course, we picked it up… it was a little more than we would have liked to pay for it but it was a 2meg backlit version and christopher’s had just been acting up and we were in the market for a new one anyway…

so, he took the new one and i took the screen from my psion 3a, (which was brand new when i bought it), and i took everything apart and gentle replaced the 3a screen with the board and everything else onto the old psion 3c…

it is now my franken-computer… 🙂

then the next day we bought a psion 5 for us off ebay… go figure… we now have a back-up computer and i now get all the old cards since the series 5 does not use ssd’s…

now if i only could get ahold of that damn dude from ebay so i can get my psimail internet on ssd… he is really starting to piss me off because he will not reply to any emails…
some people should not be an ebay seller if they can not even check their ebay email… :/ grrr…. (venting)

oh well, i will have to take a dreameye pic of the computer so i can put it up for future reference…

    it works beautifully…
i could not be more pleased…

  • this place needs some girlie stuff

    Current Mood: disappointed

Current Music: same thing as before

the original post can be found here

i did not realize that my homepage and this page looked so bad on a pc… on my dreamcast at home it looks pink and purple and all girlie and here it is all grey…

i am going to hunt down some prettier colors and do another update… it might not be in the next couple of days but it is one of the things on my huge to-do list… i also have to get some pics added so i can have those as an option as well…

  • boogie nights for new years

    Current Mood: sleepy

Current Music: some radio station that my co-worker is listening to

the original post can be found here

well not much went on at our house for new years…

we sat and watched boogie nights…
i love p.t. anderson and will be there on opening day when his next film hits the theaters…

we sat and watched the criterion laserdisc that we got off ebay for like $30… the real catch is that it is autographed by p.t and john c reilly…
the person that placed it up on ebay failed to mention in his title description that it was signed, so we got it for a steal…

well, i did not like this movie the first time i saw it, probably because i could not see the film for itself… i think i was too wrapped up into seeing the porn business and not what the movie was really about…

there are so many scenes that i can associate with on so many different levels…

i LOVE the characters and the actors are amazing as well…
you really feel their emotions and being a girl i think this makes things feel more real anyway…

we had watched this movie many times before and i like it more and more each time i watch it…

well, not much other than that going on lately…

  • fight club

    Current Mood: indifferent

    Current Music: none/at work

the original post can be found here

    great movie…
    watched this one last night…

there is one scene that no matter how many times i see this movie i still feel a little uncomfortable…

it is the fight between edward norton and jared leto…

it is not that i can not handle blood and fighting and all that… i think that it is very real looking and it is a little hard to look at…

the sound design is amazing and puts our subwoofer to the test… gotta love that plane scene…

tyler has a lot of interesting things to say…

    highly recommended…
i just do not think that i would tell my mother to watch it…
but then again, she was the one that told me that i had to go out and see pulp fiction…

well watched american president laserdisc the other night…

very sweet love story and we have been watching movies that take place (even in the smalles of ways) at christmas…

i had only seen this movie a couple times before…

i really liked annette benning in this one, i really liked her in american beauty as well…
i thought that michael douglas was a good choice for president and was not impressed with the daughter…

well, i thought that one of the best parts was when he was doing the last speech and he mentions that he had already lost one woman in his life and was not going to lose another… so sweet… 🙂

it is a cute and sweet little romantic movie…
i highly suggest it to people that want something easy and simple…
